If you are new to raising chickens, one day you might realize that the food you are given to your chickens can invite some undesirable guests. Wild birds, mice, and even rats can start intruding and stealing the food from your chickens. We have run into this problem with our chickens. This can be a real problem for urban chicken keepers.
We have recently purchased two feeders from Amazon that are designed to keep the nasty pests away from your chicken’s food. Because we bought them on the Amazon Prime day we got a really good deal. But once they arrived, we were not sure if they really would do a trick. Most of all we were afraid that our chickens will not be able to figure out how to use the feeders.
Each feeder came semi-assembled, the only thing that you needed to attach was the treadle. They ship everything you need to attach it, you will need a phillips screwdriver to do it.
This caused a problem for the chickens – they had a hard time accessing the food. I nearly sent both feeders back. To let our chickens eat I would place a brick on the treadle in the morning and remove it at night. One morning, however, my wife saw the chicken standing on the treadle and eating the food. So I decide to keep the feeders, and while assembling the second one, I realized that I made a mistake, which was easy to fix. Now we have both feeders in the pen, and I just might upload the video our chickens eating from these feeders.
